The crazy Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed in testing!

Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed

Mercedes-AMG seems determined to bring the PureSpeed concept to life, which was presented at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix last May.

Mercedes-AMG has not made things easy for itself with this roofless and windscreen-less architecture, but making use of a Halo, similar to that of the W15 Formula 1 single-seaters from the star brand. This design owes much to the project’s partner, Pininfarina, a renowned expert in somewhat wild, low-volume projects. Creating a bridge between competition and showrooms is, of course, the goal of Mercedes’ commitment to Formula 1, but there are more aesthetic elements on an F1 car than this Halo, which was compared upon its introduction to… a flip-flop. Since then, it has saved several lives, proving its usefulness, and no one would consider questioning it. So let’s assume it’s more of a tribute than a strictly aesthetic borrowing.

The Halo, which replaces the conventional A-pillar, protects passengers in the event of an accident. Like in Formula 1, the aerodynamically optimized system of the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed consists of a curved bar fixed to the vehicle’s body. Having no windscreen means one must be wary of the breeze, especially at 300 km/h. Two helmets are therefore generously provided with the car, aerodynamic models designed and produced exclusively for the PureSpeed.

The prototypes of the limited series model have been spotted on various roads in northern Italy, heading to the high-speed test track in Nardò. The small series is limited to 250 copies reserved for a select few chosen by Mercedes and AMG for their loyalty. This is the first model of the new ultra-limited Mercedes-Benz Mythos series.
