New Dacia Duster: the Lucrative Used Car Market

Few new cars experience a speculation phenomenon. Certainly, we’re not talking about staggering amounts, but the idea is the same. How many mass-produced cars can claim to be worth more as used than new?

This is the case with the new Dacia Duster, whose design and range increase are appealing. So much so that orders are piling up and delivery times are extending. Sometimes, one must wait several months to receive the combination of their dreams.

This situation opens the door to many abuses. A quick glance at the leading used car sales site, La Centrale, provides a clear perspective: the new “Dacia” Duster (10 km on the clock) is consistently more expensive than at dealerships. But the wait is virtually eliminated.

Up to 1500 euros of inflation

This opportunism is not necessarily to be condemned in absolute terms. These dealers or car merchants placed their orders many months ago, even before the new Dacia Duster was presented. So, this is a form of return on investment and anticipation.

The new Duster suffers from a second problem: the enormous quantity of the previous generation units, at a nearly identical price. Dealers are thus faced with the dilemma of clearing old stock without harming the commercial performance of the new model.

Creating a price gap is the recipe to motivate the purchase of the 2nd generation Duster. However, it will still take many months for the market to stabilize on healthy foundations.
