Can the MG7, priced at 16,000 euros, arrive in Europe?
Launched in 2023 in China at an unbeatable price, this MG7 with a combustion engine could have a future in Europe.
It is a simple press release received yesterday from MG Motor UK at the Geneva Motor Show that caught our attention. The MG3 Hybrid+ and the MG Cyberster are heavily featured because these two previews are the star attractions on the MG booth. But this press release indicates that the Cyberster joins the catalog alongside the MG4 XPower and will be accompanied by two models from the brand’s international range, the MG7 sedan and the electric MG9! OK for the MG9, a large 100% electric sedan already announced in Europe, but an MG7?
Visit the MG Global site to learn more about this model.
The MG7 is a sporty-looking fastback sedan, with an aggressive front end enhanced by triangular headlights. Four exhaust outlets and an active spoiler hint at sporty intent.
Regarding its dimensions, the MG7 measures 4,884 mm in length, 1,889 mm in width, and 1,447 mm in height. Its 2,778 mm wheelbase offers optimal interior space. It is very close to the Toyota Camry, a global bestseller.
Under the hood of the MG, there are two turbocharged engines. The first is a 1.5-liter producing 188 hp and 300 Nm, paired with a 7DCT transmission. The second is a noble 2.0-liter engine with 261 hp and 405 Nm, mated to a 9-speed transmission! With a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 6.2 seconds, the MG7 is obviously not a sports car, but it’s not lacking in pace either.
Inside the MG7, nothing is missing with a digital dashboard featuring two screens of 10.25 and 12.3 inches. Two cup holders, a wireless phone charger, and two USB-C ports… everything is there. The MG7 can even be equipped with a BOSE sound system capable of housing up to 14 speakers. Sporty front seats with pronounced side support and integrated headrests reinforce the dynamic impression of the Chinese car.

All this probably comes at a price that matches its features… The entry-level version costs only 119,800 RMB, which is less than 15,500 euros!!! How is that possible? The base model is stripped of most driver aids, making it a nice car but likely not very fun to drive.
And if you decide to take all the options with the big engine, the bill rises to 181,800 RMB, about 23,000 euros. At this price, the MG7 has many competitors in China, but in Europe, it would be a king. Sadly, taxes, customs fees, and the combustion engine penalty leave little chance for this model, but an electrified version would make sense and could be a real hit on the Old Continent. Thanks for the info, MG Motor UK!
