MG Announces the Cyber X, a Compact Boxy SUV

Fluid design enthusiasts seeking ellipses may not appreciate MG’s latest model, but we can’t wait to discover it.

MG is preparing to launch an all-new SUV called Cyber X, which will make its global debut at the Shanghai Auto Show. The brand describes this model as a “revolutionary breakthrough” in its history. We know a little cube under pressure!

The first images reveal a modern, angular design, combining robust SUV lines with a sophisticated urban touch. Rather than opting for an exclusively off-road look, the Cyber X adopts an elegant, technological aesthetic aimed at appealing to a young clientele. Among its highlights are full-width LED light bars at the front and rear, split headlights, lit MG badge, hidden door handles, and roof rails, offering a sleek and aerodynamic profile. While the powertrain specifications remain secret, the closed grille suggests an electric or hybrid model.

The Cyber X fits into MG’s ambitious product plan, with eight new models scheduled over the next two years. This includes the 2026 Cyberster roadster, the next-generation MG4 EV in 2025, and two sedans incorporating Cell-to-Body batteries in 2026. Two additional SUVs will also join the lineup.

Developed by SAIC, the E3 architecture, a modular platform for electric vehicles, promises versatility ranging from city cars to high-end vehicles. MG also plans to incorporate semi-solid batteries for better range and fast charging, along with a strategic collaboration with OPPO to connect smartphones and cars. The Cyber X could feature artificial intelligence and autonomous functions thanks to Horizon Robotics’ J6 chip.

Curve enthusiasts might be aghast at this electrified little cube, but for others, the Cyber X promises to be a bold and innovative choice. Full details and pricing will be revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show.
