Mercedes-AMG unveils its second Mythos

With the Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, the brand expands its Mythos collection with a 646 hp coupe, limited to 30 units and resolutely track-focused.

After fresh air, it’s time for heavy muscle. Inaugurated by the PureSpeed, a two-seater without a roof or windshield, the Mythos series welcomes a second creation: the Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung. Behind this cumbersome name lies a radical transformation of the CLE coupe, road-legal but designed for driving enthusiasts.

Each car is hand-built in Affalterbach on a CLE 53 platform. Under the hood, a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 develops 646 hp. All this horsepower is sent exclusively to the rear wheels, as the all-wheel drive has been removed. A nine-speed automatic transmission completes the package. Mercedes claims a 0 to 200 km/h in 11.4 seconds and a top speed of 310 km/h.

But this second Mythos doesn’t solely focus on power. It boasts approximately 170 kg of weight reduction through a severe diet: extensive use of carbon, side and rear windows made of polycarbonate, a titanium exhaust, removal of the rear seats, and reduction of acoustic insulation. Even the comfort and infotainment features go on a diet.

The body gains 60 mm in width, while the KW Automotive-developed coilover suspensions multiply the adjustment possibilities. Carbon-ceramic brakes, generously sized tires, and adjustable traction control over nine levels accompany this preparation.

Aerodynamics also plays a part, with an adjustable front device between the “Street” and “Race” settings, as well as a manually adjustable rear wing. The setup generates, according to Mercedes, more than 250 kg of downforce at full speed.

There remains a detail that will cool down potential candidates: the 30 units were already sold before the world premiere. Mercedes does not disclose any pricing in its presentation statement.
