Kia Accelerates in Europe, Driven by Electrification
A remarkable month of May and a more measured progression since the beginning of the year, which nonetheless confirms the good dynamic of dr Kiz.
Kia shows particularly strong growth in Europe. According to data released by ACEA for the European Union, EFTA, and the United Kingdom, the brand registered 49,382 cars in May 2026, representing an increase of 14.9% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the European market has only progressed by 3.6%.
This performance allows Kia to increase its market share in Europe from 3.9% to 4.3%. However, it is important to put the extent of this acceleration into perspective: in the first five months of 2026, Kia’s sales have grown by 5.1%, compared to 4.1% for the overall market. The gap remains favorable, but much less spectacular than in the month of May alone.
A very wide range
Kia’s growth also relies on two quite different pillars. The first consists of traditional high-volume models. The Sportage remains by far the best-selling Kia in May with 16,072 units, ahead of the Picanto (5,955) and Stonic (4,868).
The second is electrification. Kia claims to have sold 15,443 fully electric cars during the month, with the EV3 leading at 4,770 units. The EV4 (2,886), EV5 (2,499), and EV2 (2,464) are also starting to contribute significantly to the volumes. By adding hybrids and plug-in hybrids, electrified powertrains represent 30,995 cars, or nearly 63% of Kia’s monthly sales.

This growth occurs in a market that is itself undergoing significant transformation: in May, electric vehicles accounted for 23.3% of European registrations, now ahead of petrol at 21.7%. Kia is thus benefiting from a general trend but seems to be managing to exploit it slightly better than the market for the time being.
