Jeep Compass: What to Expect from the American Cousin of the Peugeot 3008?

Stellantis’s strategy to share its STLA technical platforms takes on a new dimension with the Jeep Compass.

The STLA Medium platform, developed by Stellantis, is increasingly establishing itself as THE key technical foundation for its various brands. Its flagship launch with the third-generation Peugeot 3008, unveiled last year, was followed by its counterpart at Opel, the second-generation Grandland. It then made its entry into the premium universe with the DS 8, demonstrating its SUV/Sedan modularity. Upcoming models such as the second-generation Citroën C5 Aircross and the upcoming Lancia Gamma will also be based on this platform.

It is therefore no surprise to find it in Jeep, another flagship brand of the group with American roots but increasingly European. After the Jeep Avenger, a cousin of the Peugeot 2008, the third-generation Compass will also benefit from this platform. Positioned similarly to the Peugeot 3008, one might reasonably wonder to what extent it will dominate the lion’s SUV market. Outperforming the Peugeot 2008 in sales in certain configurations, the Avenger proves that a touch of Yankee flair is not unwelcome to European audiences, despite the occasional inconveniences that Uncle Sam’s homeland might cause us…

Peugeot announces what Jeep will do

Answering all these questions in a few days, as Jeep recently previewed its all-new Compass, confirming that the world premiere of the model will take place in Europe this spring. Production is scheduled for this year in Melfi, Italy, where the first photos of the headlights were taken. While they honestly reveal little, the photos feature the brand’s stylistic markers, notably the iconic seven-slot grille.

The new Jeep Compass will offer a wider range of powertrains to meet various customer needs: e-Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and 100% electric, with all-wheel drive available on certain configurations.
