Chinese manufacturer BYD reached a new milestone on December 18, 2025, by producing its 15 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV), solidifying its position as a global leader in the electric and hybrid vehicle sector. The emblematic vehicle marking this milestone is an N8L SUV, a six-seater model from the premium brand DENZA, designed around the e3 (“e-cube”) platform and BYD’s Super Hybrid technology. At BYD, NEVs encompass 100% electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids. The manufacturer recalls that its F3DM, launched in 2008, was the first series-produced plug-in hybrid. Since then, production has seen exponential acceleration: it took 13 years to reach the first million NEVs, but the jump from 10 to 15 million was achieved in just 13 months. The numbers are staggering
This growth is reflected in the annual figures: in the first eleven months of 2025, BYD manufactured 4.182 million vehicles, a +11.3% increase year-on-year. International sales reached 917,000 units, already surpassing the total for 2024. Today, BYD is present in over 110 countries, with a European network spanning 33 countries and nearly 1,000 sales points, which the manufacturer plans to double by the end of 2026.
Meanwhile, BYD continues to invest heavily in research and development, with 43.75 billion yuan (5.3 billion euros) committed in the first three quarters of 2025, bringing the cumulative investment to over 220 billion yuan. These investments support innovations in battery technology, ultra-fast charging (Flash Charging), and intelligent driving, technologies that will also be deployed in Europe starting in 2026.
