The sporty Toyotas are now Gazoo Racing!

Toyota unifies its sports models under the Gazoo Racing label to bring its road cars closer to competition.

Toyota officially establishes Gazoo Racing (GR) as its sports label for production vehicles, reinforcing the connection between its road cars and its competitive expertise. This initiative is part of a long-term strategy aimed at transferring insights from motorsport to its mainstream models.

Gazoo Racing was born in 2007 when Toyota, then represented by Akio “Morizo” Toyoda, participated in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with a Toyota entered by “Team Gazoo.” Its goal was to develop cars capable of performing on the track while improving the skills of drivers and engineers. A great project that gave birth to a sporting empire… but his status as President of the Japanese brand did not allow him to indulge his passion for motorsport under the Toyota banner. With success, since 2015, the manufacturer’s sporting activities have been grouped under TOYOTA Gazoo Racing, encompassing competition and development of sports road cars, the famous GR range.

From Track to Road

Today, Toyota indeed uses Gazoo Racing for its sports production models, such as the GR Yaris, the GR Corolla, the GR Supra, and the new GR GT, designed according to the “motorsports-bred” philosophy. Each vehicle thus benefits from technologies and know-how derived from racing, offering drivers enhanced performance, optimized handling, and a dynamic driving experience on the road.

This approach also allows Toyota to showcase its engineering expertise by consolidating its training programs for drivers, engineers, and technicians specializing in sports vehicles. Gazoo Racing has thus become a strategic tool, both for competitiveness on the track and the appeal of production sports cars.
