A Simple Beveled Cut on the Audi Q5 and Here Is the Q5 Sportback

Nothing particularly revolutionary about this Audi Q5 Sportback that will delight only SUV Coupe enthusiasts.

The refreshed Audi Q5 in September 2024 introduces a Coupe variant called Sportback by the manufacturer with the four rings. An SUV, a sporty “rear end,” and here is a model with little flavor but which has the merit of offering a variation to customers who do not want a classic SUV but enjoy driving higher up.

The silhouette naturally gains dynamism but at the expense of reduced trunk volume, now 515 liters. And with the flat tailgate, the actual usable volume is much less than this figure.

Up front, we find the large Singleframe grille, introduced on the Q5, surrounded by vertical air intakes that the manufacturer claims are functional, but whose purpose isn’t clear. An ascending line starts from the bottom of the side skirt and crosses the wheel arches up to the rear bumper to reinforce the sporty impression even at a standstill. However, the downward-sloping roofline should contribute to this sporty stance, but the vertical cut of the tailgate breaks the effect. It’s neither ugly nor poorly executed, but it is somewhat disconcerting.

In Europe, the Audi Q5 Sportback will be offered with three engines, with other powertrain options to follow. At launch, all versions will be equipped with the mild hybrid MHEV technology, capable of providing up to 18 kW (24 hp) of extra power and avoiding the eco-tax penalty. All models will also feature the seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The entry-level version is equipped with a 2.0 TFSI engine producing 150 kW (204 hp) and a maximum torque of 340 Nm, available with front-wheel drive or quattro. The Audi Q5 Sportback also offers a 2.0 TDI engine, delivering 150 kW (204 hp) and 400 Nm, exclusively with quattro transmission. The high-end version, the Audi SQ5 Sportback, is fitted with a 3.0 L V6 TFSI engine, producing 270 kW (367 hp) and a torque of 550 Nm.

The new Audi Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback will be available for order in France starting December 5, 2024. Prices start at €59,750 for the Q5 and at €101,130 for the SQ5.
