Pirelli develops a special tire for the first hybrid Porsche 911

Pirelli honors its status as supplier for the new Porsche 911 GTS, the first hybrid version of the 911 range.

The first hybrid 911, a revolution in the highly codified world of the 911, is equipped with Pirelli P Zero R tires, specially designed to meet its specific needs. A winter version, the P Zero Winter 2, has also been developed. Both tires bear the “N” marking, indicating they were created in collaboration with Porsche.

The P Zero R has been adapted for the Porsche 911 GTS to enhance its dynamic behavior. It is available as original equipment on this model. Thanks to a new composition, it offers good grip on various types of roads and in different conditions, including wet surfaces. The tread profile helps reduce rolling noise, and the limited rolling resistance contributes to the vehicle’s efficiency.

For winter use, the P Zero Winter 2 offers an alternative with better grip on snow and wet surfaces. It also maintains good braking and handling performance on dry ground, thanks to a structure that ensures uniform stiffness.

Pirelli uses a simulator

The tires have been developed at Pirelli’s virtual development center in Breuberg, Germany. This center uses a driving simulator to design and test tires digitally. This method allows for greater accuracy, a 30% reduction in development time, and an equivalent decrease in the number of physical prototypes required. This has enabled the tires to be adjusted to the technical specifications of the 911 GTS.

This collaboration is part of a long-standing partnership between Pirelli and Porsche. To date, Pirelli has 338 tire approvals for various Porsche models, including vehicles with thermal, hybrid, and electric engines.
