New Toyota Yaris, the same but better

Why fundamentally reshape a successful model, risking to unsettle its customers? For its Yaris, Toyota chooses the path of Kaizen.

Anything can always be improved, a principle that Toyota applies successfully to its models. In Japanese culture, this is called Kaizen, and the small Yaris is the latest to benefit from it.

In addition to expanding the offer of self-charging hybrid powertrains and increasing the range of active safety and driving assistance systems, Toyota introduces a completely new digital equipment in the car. The Yaris receives a customizable digital instrument cluster, a more powerful and intuitive multimedia system, and even more comprehensive and practical connectivity.

More horsepower and torque

With the new Yaris range, customers can choose between the well-known 116 hp Hybrid engine and the all-new 130 hp Hybrid that guarantees superior performance while remaining an environmental benchmark. The key change on the Yaris Hybrid 130 hp is the introduction of a new hybrid gearbox-axle assembly with a more powerful electric motor-generator of 62 kW instead of 59 kW. 12% more power, but above all a 30% torque improvement, which should greatly benefit handling with a 0 to 100 km/h time finally dropping below 10 seconds.

The 2024 Yaris now features a new customizable digital driver’s display as well as a faster and more powerful multimedia system. The screens now measure 7 or 12.3 inches for the driver, and 9 or 10.5 inches for the multimedia display, depending on the version.

Welcome aboard the new Yaris

The new multimedia system can be voice-activated with the “Hey Toyota” assistant, capable of responding to more natural and conversational requests. Say “Hey Toyota, I’m cold,” and the system will automatically increase the temperature. The voice assistant accepts requests without the need to lower or deactivate audio playback.

The list of driving assistance features, the famous ADAS, expands with a new camera and radar capable of scanning farther and wider than before, allowing the pre-collision system to detect a frontal impact risk and a broader range of objects and vehicles, including pedestrians, cyclists, and now motorcycles in the vehicle’s path. It also benefits the intersection collision avoidance system. Alerts for cyclist and vehicle detection when opening doors are included, along with a rear-seat reminder system that alerts the driver if a child or pet is forgotten… Do not roll your eyes, daily incidents demonstrate the true usefulness of this system.

In terms of design, there is no revolution, but new wheels and colors. More notably, special attention was paid to the tactile feel of the interior materials, with repositioned accessories, inserts, and softer-touch padding.

A Yaris GR Sport for rally enthusiasts

For customers seeking a more sporty style, the Yaris GR SPORT is inspired by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, four-time World Rally Champions. It features exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels with red decorative rings, distinctive gray chrome paint, sport front seats with suede upholstery and red stitching, sport pedals, and a perforated leather steering wheel. A GR badge appears on the seats, start button, and steering wheel.
