More than just a version of the Avenger, the 4xe aims to be a true new model with a permanent all-wheel drive system.

Jeep is innovating with the introduction of a new powertrain in the Jeep Avenger 4xe. This system combines the advantages of a hybrid system with all-wheel drive. At the heart of this 48V hybrid system is a 1.2-liter turbo engine developing 136 hp, complemented by two 21 kW electric motors positioned at the front and rear of the vehicle. It is paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, allowing for electric-only driving at low speeds thanks to the integrated electric motor.

The Jeep Avenger 4xe is equipped with an intelligent all-wheel drive system, ensuring that all four-wheel drive is always available when needed. At low speeds (between -30 and +30 km/h), four-wheel traction is permanent, with a 50/50 distribution. At medium speeds (between 30 and 90 km/h), the rear axle is only activated on demand. It is worth noting that even with zero torque, the rear electric motor remains connected to the rear wheels for sudden needs. When all-wheel drive is engaged, torque distribution is based on actual demand, with a potential distribution of up to 50/50. At high speeds (over 90 km/h), the drive to the front wheels becomes permanent, and the rear electric motor disengages from the axle to minimize fuel consumption.

More Avenger than Jeep?

The pleasant surprise is that this all-wheel drive is paired with a suitable chassis. The off-road angles are improved to 22° approach, 21° breakover, and 35° departure. The ground clearance is raised to 210 mm, and the water fording height is increased to 400 mm. Thus, the Avenger 4xe is not a flimsy off-roader but a real Jeep designed to go off the paved roads.

At first glance, the specific exterior elements immediately catch the eye. These include redesigned fog lights, positioned slightly higher and outward, improving visibility. The roof rails and rear towing hook have also been meticulously designed to complement the vehicle’s rugged character. The front and rear bumpers are made from a mass-tinted material with a scratch-resistant finish. At the front, the new bumper exposes the wheel and features a higher and more prominent covering protecting the license plate from impacts. Additionally, essential components such as the grille and radar are protected by robust bumpers.

If this car will be found more easily in the upscale districts of Paris than hitched to a farm, it is by no means a scam. Jeep has genuinely developed a real all-terrain vehicle with all-wheel drive. The cherry on top is that it is hybrid and benefits from modern and very intelligent technology. In summary, the spirit of Jeep is very much alive in this Avenger 4xe.
