Light façade renovation for the Mazda2 Hybrid

The small hybrid city car Mazda2 receives a new front end. A subtle facelift to make its kinship with the Toyota Yaris fade away.

Producing a small city car like the Mazda2 no longer makes much sense for a small manufacturer, given the development costs, homologation across different markets, the obligation to limit fuel consumption, and spare parts inventory management.

Therefore, a industrial and commercial partnership with Toyota was born in 2015 to rebadge certain models, such as the Yaris, which thus became the Mazda2 Hybrid. Lacking a distinct identity, the Mazda2 has since struggled with its lack of recognition. Will this update be enough to make it emerge from obscurity?

The 2024 Mazda2 Hybrid features a redesigned front end with a new bumper and grille. The rear design, created by the brand’s European design studio, changes very little with a body-colored tailgate trim replacing the black strip seen in the previous version.

Under the hood, the Mazda2 retains a 92 hp/68 kW three-cylinder gasoline engine, 1490 cc, paired with a 59 kW electric motor. The combined setup develops a total output of 116 hp/85 kW. The 2024 Mazda2 Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds and claims a top speed of 175 km/h. Its fuel consumption in WLTP mixed cycle is rated at 4.3 l/100 km, with CO₂ emissions of just 87-97 g/km.
