Aura NISMO RS: Nissan’s Sporty Hybrid

Nissan unveils the Aura NISMO RS concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, a compact hybrid sedan designed for performance.

Nissan lifted the veil on the Aura NISMO RS Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, offering a glimpse of a high-performance sports compact sedan with a radical design. This concept, derived from the Aura NISMO, combines a muscular aesthetic with advanced aerodynamic solutions while incorporating the hybrid e‑POWER powertrain from the X‑Trail NISMO for significantly increased power delivered to the wheels.

The design of the Aura NISMO RS has been crafted to enhance its dynamic character. The widened fenders by 145 mm and the lowered ride height by 20 mm contribute to a low center of gravity and an aggressive stance. Aerodynamics have been optimized with a front spoiler, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a specific rear wing, all accentuated by the red NISMO signature. The taut surfaces and the exclusive Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray color ensure visual uniformity and enhance the impression of speed, even when stationary.

The generator in the spotlight

Under the hood, the hybrid e‑POWER system relies on a very particular concept. The thermal engine serves solely to generate electricity to power the electric motors that drive the wheels. This architecture allows for the instant acceleration typical of electric motors with reduced emissions compared to a conventional thermal engine.

In the Aura NISMO RS, this configuration is paired with the e‑4ORCE all-wheel drive and a NISMO optimization of the aerodynamics and suspension, offering traction and cornering behavior at the highest level for a hybrid compact sedan. The braking system relies on large four-piston calipers at the front and two-piston calipers at the rear. Despite being approximately 100 kg heavier than the Aura NISMO, the concept would maintain, according to the Japanese manufacturer, remarkable handling.
