963 RSP, the ultimate hybrid Porsche approved for the road?

Porsche has unveiled a little more about a very special new model announced as a one-off, the 963 RSP.

This would be a unique car, inspired by the Porsche 963, the prototype engaged in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This new version could be road-legal, making it a true race car usable for everyday driving.

Last month, Porsche had already sparked some intrigue with a video discussing a 1975 917, modified for road use. Today, things are becoming clearer: Porsche is preparing an exceptional model, likely to be presented just before the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2025, which begins on June 14.

In a teaser published recently, we discover the official name of this model: Porsche 963 RSP. It’s not exactly clear what “RSP” means, but if RennSport Prototype, meaning “Racing Prototype” in German, is a contender, some believe it stands for Roger Seale Penske, the head of the team that races Porsches in endurance championship and who may have commissioned this very special model.

In this video, we see Porsche technicians handcrafting this car. They sew the seats, sand the carbon fiber body, mix the paints, and even place a real Porsche badge on the hood. An important detail, as on the race car, the logo is merely a sticker to save weight.

On the technical side, Porsche has revealed nothing so far. But we expect the 963 RSP to be very close to the competition model: a twin-turbo V8 engine, a 7-speed sequential gearbox, and an electric motor at the rear.

One thing is for sure, only one example will exist. This Porsche 963 RSP is set to be a unique hypercar, combining extreme performance and racing style while being capable of legally driving on the road. A collector’s piece that is already making enthusiasts dream.
