End of the Ford Fiesta: which electric replacement?

The famous small Ford Fiesta is expected to bow out soon. The American brand even announced it via a social media video. The end of its career is predicted for summer 2023 by Automotive News. This news is not surprising, as the American brand has already stopped all its sedans for several years (including Focus, Fusion, and 500).

Sales of the Fiesta have also experienced a dramatic decline, with fewer than 40,000 units sold annually compared to over 90,000 Puma units. The three-door version has also disappeared in recent months. To replace it, Ford is planning an electric vehicle.

A future Ford Fiesta electric? Not really…

“The car will be built in Cologne starting summer 2023,” states a source to the German media AutomobilWoche. In reality, this information dates back a few months, and here we are talking about Ford’s compact SUV, similar in size to a BYD Atto 3 or Peugeot e-3008.

It will indeed be the smaller sibling of the Mustang Mach-E, with a coupe variant planned for 2024. Ford has invested 2 billion euros into this project and plans to produce 200,000 vehicles annually in the German factory.

The real replacement won’t arrive before 2024

For a vehicle close in size to the Ford Fiesta, you’ll need to wait another year. The manufacturer has already announced that it will launch a small electric crossover in 2024—namely, the Ford Puma!

And yes, that’s exactly the model seen at the end of the farewell video for the Ford Fiesta. Its production will take place in Romania, but it’s still too early for details such as engine or batteries. The only certainty is that it will face vehicles like the Hyundai Kona or Jeep Avenger.
