Olivier François, director of Fiat, spoke up to reveal several interesting details about the upcoming thermal 500.

The wait is almost over. Five years after the launch of the very attractive Fiat 500 electric, the Italian manufacturer has decided to develop a petrol version… as sales have collapsed. On Friday, July 4, 2025, during the unveiling of the pre-series model in Turin, Fiat’s CEO Olivier François shared a wealth of information.

Thus, we now know that the launch of the Fiat 500 hybrid (12-volt micro assistance) will take place in November 2025. In a full year, Fiat aims for 100,000 sales (compared to 25,000 electric versions in 2024) to breathe new life into the Mirafiori factory in Turin. But for that, they will need to convince with an attractive price. Olivier François emphasized the “popular” and historical approach of the 500 to justify a price repositioning.

Let’s not prolong the pleasure: the target starting price will be 17,000 euros in Europe, compared to 28,900 euros (excluding bonuses) currently in France for the entry-level electric model.

A cheaper electric version is on the way!

Another piece of information shared by Fiat is the development of an updated electric version in 2027 aimed at lowering the price. A search for relevance with a target starting price of 20,000 euros, which represents a reduction of approximately 30% that could finally change the game.

To achieve this industrial success, Olivier François claims that the price reduction will come from in-house battery production at Stellantis.

The first tests of the hybrid thermal version will take place at the start of the school year, with Fiat already planning 5,000 sales in 2025. The impact of sales cannibalization between the Panda and the 500 now remains to be assessed.
