With the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, Santa Claus was able to complete his trip around the World last night, pushing the limits of modern engineering. Produced in a limited series of only 250 units, plus one for our bearded hero with a red hat, this new creation combines bold styling, innovative materials, and cutting-edge technologies directly inspired by the hypercar universe.
The PureSpeed takes stylistic elements from the Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar, with a low silhouette and a distinctive shark-like front. The generous air intakes, carbon fiber details, and subtly integrated aerodynamic deflectors demonstrate meticulous attention to airflow optimization. The 21-inch forged wheels, partly covered at the rear to reduce resistance, reinforce this commitment to aerodynamic efficiency.
The absence of a roof, compensated by a HALO system inspired by F1, illustrates a radical approach. This safety device, introduced into the top category in 2018, protects passengers while contributing to the structural rigidity of the car. The HALO is also enhanced by discreet LED lighting, blending function and aesthetic.
An ode to Mercedes’ history
Under the hood, you’ll find the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 AMG engine, delivering 585 horsepower for a maximum torque of 800 Nm. Coupled with an AMG 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system, the PureSpeed accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission, with a wet clutch, ensures quick gear changes and optimal responsiveness.
The driving dynamics are enhanced by semi-active suspensions and an integrated rear steering system. At low speeds, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels to improve agility, while at high speeds, they align to maximize stability.
Every detail pays tribute to Mercedes-Benz’s rich history in motorsport. Elements such as the vents behind the seats evoke the legendary 300 SLRs of the 1950s. An exclusive Silver Arrow finish and stylistic packs also recall iconic victories, such as the 1924 Targa Florio.
