Electric Sales: Renault Mégane E-tech Leads Ahead of Fiat 500

The Renault group places two models on the podium of the best electric cars.

With a total of 13,121 registrations, the market for electric passenger and commercial vehicles in France experienced a 23.4% increase in August 2022.

In the passenger vehicle category, which accounts for the overwhelming majority of sales (12,302 units), the ranking by model is led by the Renault Mégane E-Tech (1,521 units). Leading for the second consecutive month, the compact with the diamond badge is also the best-selling car in its category across all energy types.

The second place in the electric bestsellers ranking goes to the Fiat 500 (1,379 registrations). The podium is completed by the Renault Zoe with 953 registrations. The Peugeot e-208 holds the fourth position.

Electric cars are in shape; plug-in hybrids are struggling

The dynamics are not the same in the plug-in hybrid car market, which declined by 9.5% (6,799 registrations). Since the beginning of the year, sales of this type of vehicle have fallen by 14.6%. In total, 77,355 plug-in hybrid models have been registered from January to August, a figure to compare with the 126,296 electric cars sold in the same period (+30.1% vs 2021).

The best-selling plug-in hybrid in August is the Mercedes GLC (352 registrations). The Kia Sportage and the Mini Countryman round out the podium with 327 and 325 registrations respectively.
