With its SUV, Xiaomi aims to kill the Tesla Model Y

Xiaomi’s highly anticipated SUV will be launched in the first quarter of 2025, and success seems already assured.

Chinese media report that Xiaomi’s second model, code MX11, will be launched in the first quarter of 2025, slightly before the release of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra supercar. Everything should then accelerate rapidly, because Xiaomi doesn’t like to waste time! As a reminder, the SU7 was unveiled on March 28 of this year and deliveries started a few days later. But this schedule raises questions because Xiaomi’s factory is already operating on a 2X8, or rather 2X10 schedule with Chinese labor rights, with two shifts and struggling to meet demand for the SU7, which could slow down the company’s plans for the SUV launch in the first quarter.

Although it can be classified in the somewhat catch-all SUV category, Xiaomi announces a very low overall style and a silhouette more akin to a raised coupe than an off-road vehicle. The inspiration comes from the Ferrari Purosangue, which is a pretty good starting point, with, of course, a nod to the stylistic markers of the SU7 such as the headlights, continuous taillights, frameless doors, and semi-hidden door handles.

It is expected that Xiaomi will adopt a similar approach to the SU7 regarding pricing for the new SUV. The prices of the sedan deliberately started slightly lower than those of the Tesla Model 3 before aligning almost exactly with them. The most fascinating aspect is that no one expected Xiaomi to reach such levels 12 months ago. And considering that the SUV will likely sell better than the sedan, as with Tesla, there are concerns for the American manufacturer.
