Why don’t the French have the right to choose the color of their Tesla?

American Tesla customers can choose new body colors through an official wrapping service.

If the colors offered by Tesla don’t suit you, you still have the option to get a full custom wrapping of excellent quality for your Tesla from recognized specialists. It will cost you between 2,000 and 3,000 euros to stand out from the herd. More than a whim, it’s a smart investment, as besides the aesthetic aspect, a wrap protects the original paint which, once the film is removed, will have been spared from life’s impacts… and the sun. These skins are mainly made from polyvinyl chloride, making them very durable, versatile, and removable.

In the United States, an official wrapping service is directly available in the Tesla shop for the Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. Of course, it’s official, meaning under warranty, but more expensive since it costs $4,000. The clever aspect of the system is that when ordering, you don’t have to choose the color. Once the invoice is paid, you’re invited to schedule an appointment in your Tesla app for a personalized consultation with a Tesla advisor. They help you select not only the color that best complements your complexion but also the vinyl texture, between matte, satin, and glossy finishes. After the consultation, you set a date for the installation of your wrap at one of the providers chosen by Tesla. The installation usually takes a few days, but you’ll have a loaner vehicle during the process.

As you can see, contrary to what some tuning shows suggest, the installation doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye, and a whole service setup is required to ensure proper follow-up from order to delivery. This service will inevitably be offered in France someday, once all the logistics are in place, but when and at what cost?
