Which Tesla Model Y to choose for a Paris – Lyon trip?

What could be the ideal model in the Y lineup of Tesla for traveling from Paris to Lyon? For you, we’ve compared the three Model Y vehicles from the American brand based on distance. 

Tesla has a planning software that allows you to know in advance the most convenient charging stations for you. To do this, we tested the planner with the three Model Y models in the lineup: Model Y, Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance. 

Model Y 

The entry-level in Tesla’s Y lineup is the Model Y, which has a WLTP range of 455 km. For the Paris – Lyon trip, two stops are necessary. The first in Thiais, requiring a 15-minute recharge, and then Beaune, for a 30-minute recharge, which will be the final stop. The total travel time will be 6 hours for 481 km. 

Model Y Long Range 

The second vehicle in the lineup is the Model Y Long Range, as its name indicates, this model has the longest range of the three, confirmed at 533 km. For the trip, 470 km will be covered in 5 hours and 25 minutes. Only one stop of 45 minutes will be necessary to cover this distance. It will be at Avallon, northwest of Dijon. 

Model Y Performance 

Finally, the last vehicle in the Y lineup is the Model Y Performance. Its range is 514 km, placing it between the other two models. To complete the journey, you will need to stop twice: once at Avallon for 10 minutes, and a second time at Beaune for 20 minutes. The trip will take 5 hours and 25 minutes to cover 475 km. 

In the end, 35 minutes more will be required with the standard Model Y compared to the other two vehicles. However, the route is 6 and 11 km longer than the Long Range and Performance models. Price is also a factor in the choice; the base price of the Model Y is €45,990, compared to €52,990 for the Long Range and €59,990 for the Performance. The standard range Model Y will be quite sufficient for the trip, unless you desire higher power and longer autonomy.
