It quickly becomes clear whether a car will sell or not. For the Peugeot 3008, we weren’t very worried, but that doesn’t mean we are reassured now.

With more than 100,000 orders registered in just six months, the new Peugeot 3008 is off to a strong start. However, and even if the brand with the lion seems pleased, the share of 100% electric versions remains modest, accounting for only 22% of total sales. It is certainly above the segment average, but Peugeot has built much of its communication around this fully electric version, and it would be surprising if these figures align with the business plan. Although this result is respectable, it is likely below expectations and indicates a stronger enthusiasm for hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. It is especially the case with these multi-energy platform vehicles that lack a distinctive character and confuse customers seeking clear references.

The scheduled arrival in 2025 of the E-3008 all-wheel drive version will enhance an already existing electric lineup consisting of two versions: a 210 hp model with a range of 529 km and a Long Range 230 hp version capable of reaching 701 km in WLTP combined cycle thanks to the STLA Medium platform. However, these technological advantages still do not overshadow the appeal of hybrid offers, which attract a customer base seeking versatility.

In Europe, France, the UK, and Germany stand out as the main markets with respectively 35,000, 25,000, and 9,000 units ordered. Yet, the sales mix reflects an unexpected reality: hybrid powertrains continue to dominate consumer choices, confirming their status as the ideal solution for energy transition.

While the Peugeot E-3008 reflects the brand’s ambitions for electrification, the results show that the path to fully electric success is still ahead. The growing popularity of hybrids, which combine efficiency and flexibility, could very well be the main driver of this generation’s success.
