What is the trunk volume of the Tesla Model Y 7-seater?

The 7-seater version of the Tesla Model Y is finally arriving in France. Is it a practical gadget or a magical asset?

In the Tesla Model Y, the additional row of seats logically intrudes on the trunk space. This configuration makes the Model Y more versatile, certainly, but not necessarily more comfortable since it consists more of emergency bleachers than proper seats. The width is ideal and there are even two cup holders, but a passenger who is 1.75m tall finds their knees in their chin, and their head bent to avoid hitting the hatch glass. On the other hand, children will love this cabin-like space with the sky overhead!

What Tesla presents in its best-seller is not a revolution since this model already exists everywhere else in the world. Why not in France until now? Perhaps because we have a more “utilitarian” view of the family car in France. And having 7 seats is great, but without trunk space for luggage, it’s less great!

In the Tesla, the seats hide under the floor, which reduces the trunk capacity by about 100 liters when they are folded down. This is ultimately quite little because they mostly eliminate the rarely used storage space under the floor, and the trunk still offers a total volume of 720 liters, which is well above average. With all seven seats in place, you have 363 liters of cargo space, a few liters more than a Volkswagen ID.3, and you still have the front trunk of 115 liters to complement the cargo area. This is more than enough to accommodate the luggage needed for a long family weekend. At 2,500 euros, we wholeheartedly approve of the option.
