Besides the ugly paint, what do you think of the new BMW?

BMW makes a splash at Auto Shanghai with a showcase of its futuristic prototype: the BMW Vision Driving Experience.

At the center of this technological spectacle presented by BMW is the famous supercomputer Heart of Joy (we admire the poetic name), which centralizes and optimizes driving performance. According to BMW, this control unit is so fast that it elevates driving dynamics to unexplored heights. Developed for the new generation of the Neue Klasse lineup, this technology promises performances that are as smooth as they are powerful, although, let’s be honest, in everyday traffic, there will be little chance to test the 18,000 Nm of torque.

BMW claims that this machine is capable of generating a downforce of 1.2 tons and lateral accelerations of 3G comparable to an F1 car. However, there has been no word from the German manufacturer about the tire manufacturer daring enough to develop rubber capable of handling such forces.

But let’s talk paint

BMW did not hold back on aesthetics, with a body covered in an innovative fluorescent paint that literally shines brightly. Charging its luminous pigments in daylight, it oscillates between a whitish yellow and a vibrant neon yellow depending on the lighting. And for the grand finale, a visual “magic” using a UV film applied over this paint, offering a yellow-orange-pink gradient and transforming the rear of the vehicle into a true rolling rainbow. At Mobiwisy, it’s not our style to criticize, but honestly, what a mess.

In the end, the goal is ambitious for this prototype, which aims to be a rolling laboratory for technological advancements that will, one day, find their way into production cars. But let’s be honest, this prototype is primarily a showcase. Between the flashy paint and unrealistic performances, it’s clear BMW is trying to attract as much as… dazzle, both literally and figuratively.
