Volkswagen unveils the ID.3 and finally finds the right price!

When Volkswagen announces a “more accessible” model, it does not mean fewer features, but simply a significant discount.

Volkswagen has its flaws, that’s for sure. The German brand is still paying dearly for its missteps with diesel engines, and its entry into the electric market is not a model to be taught in engineering, marketing, or business schools… in any school, in fact!

But when the brand sells a car, it is impeccable in terms of build quality and equipment. A Volkswagen is not generally a passion car, but a rational purchase and rarely disappointing. This truth adds even more value to the few sporty models scattered here and there in the lineup. A GTI here, a GTX there, a GTE that teases both. They also know not to take themselves too seriously.

But let’s return to our rational purchases. Volkswagen launched into 100% electric with the ID.3 as the entry-level model. The only problem, and it’s a significant one, is that the compact started its career priced higher than a Tesla Model 3. The flop was inevitable. Since then, Volkswagen has been continually revising its strategy with a model that retains its strengths but becomes more accessible day by day.

We now arrive at an ID.3 currently available in France starting at 27,990 euros, after a 4,000 euro environmental bonus is deducted, thanks to a substantial 3,000 euro discount offered by the brand.

The ID.3 “Pure” is equipped with a 125 kW (170 hp) motor paired with a 52 kWh net battery offering up to 388 km of range in the WLTP cycle. It provides a charging power of 7.2 kW in alternating current and 145 kW in direct current. With this, you can cover over 90% of your needs. We could be very critical of this model, but always in relation to the pricing with the offering. When the manufacturer finds the right price without any compromises on equipment, we must commend them. Because for less than 30,000 euros, aside from a top-notch technical sheet, you get a 12.9-inch screen with connected infotainment, keyless start, intuitive voice command “Hello ID.”, and of course, all available driving aids. In short, a good Volkswagen as Volkswagen has always known how to make them.
