The 4×4 Scout, which was on the American market in the 60s to 80s, is (soon) making a grand return to the spotlight

Volkswagen has decided to revisit models that performed well in the last century by updating them. The German giant is relying on two models to establish a presence in America. On one side, the Traveler, a massive SUV aimed at customers looking to alternate between urban driving and more adventurous outings. On the other, the Terra pickup is more suited for drivers living in rural areas. These vehicles, which are not entering unknown territory in the United States, could compete with the Tesla Cybertruck and other Rivian RT1, which are thriving in the United States.

All technical details of these vehicles are not yet known since they are concept cars. The design of the vehicles will be completed in Detroit before the vehicles are assembled in series in the factories of South Carolina. For now, we know that Scout vehicles are electric and have a range of about 500 km. It will still be possible to add a small thermal engine to extend the range by an additional 300 km.

The Terra features a trunk that is 1.68 meters long and can tow 4.5 tons compared to 3.2 tons for the SUV. However, the latter will be equipped with a spare tire, unlike the pickup. Both vehicles have the same refined interior that features a beautiful horizontal screen on the dashboard. Both machines measure 1.95 meters high and 2.30 meters wide, while the SUV reaches a length of 5.30 meters compared to 5.80 meters (!) for the pickup.

As for the pricing, the base model of the SUV starts at $50,000 compared to $51,500 for the pickup. Unfortunately for fans of large vehicles, these models will not be marketed in Europe and will not make their appearance in North America until 2027. If the success is there, however, it is not excluded that we might see them arrive on the old continent.
