Volkswagen ID.X Performance: Tuning in Poor Taste?

Sport-oriented electric cars will not escape the stylistic flaws that nevertheless hinder their efficiency.

For now, it is a concept whose mission is to generate buzz (no pun intended regarding the ID.Buzz van…). And Volkswagen needs it to draw attention to its electric models, which are struggling to find buyers. The reason being products that are still expensive and can be improved compared to other market references.

With this ID.X Performance sedan, based on the new ID.7, the German company ticks all the boxes of a race car homologated for road use. But is that the purpose of an electric car? Wider fenders by 80 mm, lowered suspension by 60 mm, extra-large front bumper, carbon rear wing, large tires with a 265 mm width and 20-inch diameter… Everything is designed to massively increase energy consumption.

The technical specifications are similar, which should nonetheless make one chuckle when thinking of the recent Zeekr 001 FR with 1200 horsepower, while the German model admits to 558 horsepower transmitted to all four wheels. No other technical details have leaked, except for a charging speed of 200 kW.

Inside, customization is limited to red inserts here and there, and the addition of pretty carbon bucket seats.
