Porsche Taycan Nordschleife

A pre-production Porsche Taycan Turbo GT beat the previous lap record of the Tesla Model S Plaid by 18 seconds.

Porsche showcased this week its new Taycan GT Turbo with 1,100 hp. But it wasn’t the first official appearance of this electric devil, which went to test its limits at the absolute benchmark, the Nordschleife, at the end of 2023. And our pre-production Taycan didn’t hold back, setting a record for a civilian electric sedan with a time of 7 minutes 7 seconds and 55 milliseconds. That’s 18 seconds faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid with 7 minutes 25 seconds and 31 milliseconds.

Rear-wheel steering, new aerodynamics package (front splitter, rear wing, etc.), the Turbo GT in this special Weissach package version has donned a gladiator’s suit to battle the green hell. Equipped with an optimized electric motor, it provides 790 hp (580 kW). The Launch Control boosts this power to 1,030 hp (760 kW) during acceleration, and a diabolical overboost pushes the horsepower to 1,100 hp (815 kW) for two seconds!

The record for an electric car remains held by the Rimac Nevera with 7 minutes 5 seconds and 298 milliseconds. 2 seconds better than the Porsche over 20.8 km, despite its power of… 1914 horsepower!
