Totally Crazy: Smart #1 Discounted to €29,815!

The price of the small urban electric SUV Smart #1 plummets with a new discount of €4,000, making its entry-level price below €30,000.

The automotive landscape is still reshaping itself. The car brands of yesterday, acquired by Chinese manufacturers, have disappeared from the European scene. However, in China, they are also facing no success, and even less so in the United States.

In a sense, this is the stark and incontrovertible reality we can observe regarding Smart. Daimler Mercedes has “rid itself of” it quite successfully (unfortunately, many jobs were sacrificed in France), and today Smart is a thorn in the side of Geely, its new owner. ZEEKR, the other brand that was supposed to invade Europe and shares mechanics with Smart and Volvo, is not gaining traction either.

Smart #1, a positioning mistake?

In the collective imagination, Smart is a clever micro-city car that can navigate traffic jams and parking difficulties. But here’s the catch: Geely has repositioned it as a compact electric SUV that no longer has any distinctive concept — in terms of dimensions, price, or features, it’s not better than the competition. So, why buy a Smart?

Precisely, one of the reasons to buy a Smart #1 is becoming its price, which is falling rapidly. Previously offered from €41,000, the Smart #1 has dropped, at the end of 2024, to €29,815 for the Pure trim, thanks to yet another €4,000 discount.

This Pure trim embodies the essence of Smart with an urban focus, due to its relatively limited range. With a 47 kWh net battery capacity, its WLTP mixed cycle range is 310 km, roughly 230 km in real-world conditions. In town, with regenerative braking, this distance easily extends to 300 km. On the acceleration front, it’s more than sufficient with 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds powered by 272 electric horsepower (200 kW). Enough to lose your license every day in the city.

The charging accepts up to 130 kW, which is convenient for escapes outside the city. At €29,815, frankly, the Smart #1 is definitely worth considering.
