Top 20 Electric Cars in France: Small Models Lead in February 2023

Under the weight of inflation, it is the city cars and compact cars that top the list of electric vehicles in France at the beginning of 2023, along with Tesla. 

With a significant jump in electric car sales in January and February 2023, some models are disrupting thermal cars. We now notice an electric vehicle in the Top 10 across all engine types, and a second in the Top 20. Others, with both thermal and electric versions, are accelerating their growth, like the Peugeot 208 or the Fiat 500.

Dacia Spring, Already Spring in the Middle of Winter

In tenth place on the French automotive market, the Dacia Spring knocks out the Toyota Yaris, as well as the Dacia Duster. With 4,783 registrations over two months, this small city car is by far the number 1 among electric vehicles at the start of 2023. In February, it still took the crown, with 2,876 units, ahead of a much larger model. The Tesla Model Y continues its rise, with nearly 2,500 units, making it into the Top 20 in France among thermal vehicles. On the podium, the Peugeot e-208 approaches 2,100 registrations, representing 29% of the model’s sales. 

The Fiat 500 electric, in fourth place, surpasses the Renault Megane E-Tech, which struggles to beat the MG4 around 1,000 units. The Tesla Model 3 totals less than 800 units but dominates the Renault ZOE and Twingo, which are approaching the end of their lifecycle. The Hyundai Kona, tenth, is also in this situation before the imminent replacement in 2023.
