This major Tesla rival arrives in Europe

Rivian has unveiled a first teaser for its new electric SUV and confirmed its arrival in Europe.

Rivian is known for its R1T and R1S, two massive electric SUVs packed with American muscle. In R1S cabin or R1T pickup versions, they are two monsters weighing over 3 tons and measuring 5.5 meters long, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds. Serious competitors for the Tesla Cybertruck. Such extremes are not targeted at the European market, where they are not officially imported, but the company’s latest model would quite like to be.

The Rivian range is about to expand with the announced arrival of a smaller, more affordable model, the R2. To keep us waiting before the reveal on March 7, the manufacturer posted a small teaser on social media hinting at the lighting signature… identical to that of the R1. Well, we don’t learn much, but at least it’s an official first glimpse of this electric SUV before its expected debut in 2026. Rivian also announced that reservations for this model will open at the time of its unveiling.

Smaller, cheaper

Recent reports from Rivian suggest that the model could start at just 40,000 euros, with prices rising up to 60,000 euros for the best-equipped versions.

So, what do we have to look forward to in the meantime? The front of the new model features the same cheerful face as its bigger siblings, with rounded headlights at the ends and a full-width LED light bar.

Europe in the sights?

Currently, Rivian does not have any models available for sale in France. The R1 is homologatable and it is already possible to import it into France. Initially, prices and delivery times will only concern the United States and Canada, but the manufacturer has confirmed on its website that Europe is on the agenda. A new model, perfectly suited to the consumption habits of the old continent and competitive against established references, could be the long-awaited trigger. And above all, a serious competitor for the Tesla Model Y!
