The 2025 Tesla Model Y Propulsion Stripped of 20-Inch Wheels!

In an effort to streamline its production, the new Tesla Model Y 2025 Propulsion is prohibited from optional 20-inch wheels.

To live is to choose. Thus, Tesla makes life easier by reducing the configuration options for its new Model Y Propulsion facelift. Goodbye to the optional 20-inch wheels that hadn’t seemed to capture customers’ attention until now. And this for three reasons:

• an additional cost of 2100 euros that threatened the eligibility for the ecological bonus
• reduced range
• degraded shock comfort, which was already not the strong point of the first Model Y

One could also add the exposure to impacts, as the offset of Tesla wheels has historically been poorly designed.

Everything for range?

It is true that the primary concern for Model Y Propulsion drivers is range. The 2025 version sees its range increase from 455 to 500 km, a commendable increase of 10%. Based on the drop in range displayed by the Model Y Long Range with 20-inch wheels (568 km versus 586 km with 19-inch), the Propulsion would thus have its value set at around 482 km.

Moreover, note that the Long Range Propulsion version has the 20-inch Helix 2.0 wheels, but the configurator does not indicate the drop in range. Again, this can be estimated at about 20 kilometers, which would mean a mixed route of 602 km. This is still better than the previous generation, which was rated at 600 km on 19-inch tires.

Finally, if you find the new 19-inch hubcaps very beautiful, there is a very high probability that you will not be able to adapt them to your “old” Model Y. Tesla has indeed modified the design of its steel wheels so that the clips no longer align with the previous ones. Therefore, it is impossible to harm the image of the new Model Y, or to benefit from these more aerodynamic hubcaps.
