Renault 5 Monte Carlo

We suspected that the new Renault 5 would inevitably lend itself to all sorts of special interpretations.

Since its electric renaissance, the Renault 5 has already seen a Roland Garros edition, but here comes a Dutch one. The Renault 5 “Monte-Carlo Edition” debuts exclusively in the Netherlands, and it’s hard not to see a strong nod to the legendary Clio Williams from the 90s.

Just a glance is enough to understand the lineage: deep blue body, 19-inch gold wheels, and golden stripes running along the waistline. Even the black strip between the headlights, which gives a semblance of a grille, recalls its illustrious predecessor. The whole thing exudes nostalgia without ever falling into caricature. Inside, the atmosphere continues with seats dressed in leather and Alcantara, a dashboard adorned with golden stitching, and of course, a small numbered plaque, just to remind you that you’re aboard a limited edition.

A purely aesthetic tribute

Under the bodywork, however, there’s no miracle. The Monte-Carlo Edition retains the 121 hp electric engine and a 40 kWh battery, which is the mid-range configuration. Enough to offer versatile usage, but certainly not performance worthy of the original Clio Williams. The tribute remains thus aesthetic and is embraced as such.

Produced in collaboration with Re-Volve, a Dutch specialist in special series, this Renault 5 will only be made in 25 units, all reserved for the local market through the distribution group Zeeuw & Zeeuw, and already sold at €38,000.
