Morgan celebrates its history and looks to the future by unveiling a new fully electric three-wheeled prototype, the XP-1.
Morgan specifies that this prototype is not currently intended for production but was created for the development of an innovative powertrain and internal training in electric vehicles.
After a rich year of design and construction, the XP-1 will now undertake a comprehensive testing program over the next 18 to 24 months.
The combination of the battery, motor, and inverter of the XP-1 is, of course, a major first for Morgan. In-house engineers will have the opportunity to define how an electric Morgan should drive. Work has also focused on the chassis and bodywork derived from the combustion engine-powered Super 3, with a 33% reduction in the drag coefficient, notably thanks to aerodynamic wheel covers. A custom interior screen handles all user interface functions, demonstrating this car’s potential to eventually go into production.
Periodic updates on the progress of the XP-1 are now expected, along with appearances at numerous events, both at Morgan’s factory and elsewhere.
