The Jeep Avenger electric drops to €31,500 (after bonus deduction)

Thanks to an immediate discount of 2500 euros, the price of the electric Jeep Avenger is now flirting with 30,000 euros.

It’s not easy to decode the commercial policy of the Stellantis group. While the many brands of the Franco-Italian group (formerly PSA Peugeot Citroën + Fiat empire) are fully promoting their transition to electric, at the same time the prices encourage you to stick with combustion vehicles.

The example of the Jeep Avenger is striking: for the same trim level, the entry-level Longitude gasoline version starts at 24,000 euros, while its electric equivalent begins at 38,000 euros. Admittedly, one can still deduct 4000 euros from ecological bonuses, or even 7000 euros for low-income households (but in which case they wouldn’t be buying cars for nearly 40,000 euros…), yet the remaining difference of 10,000 euros is still too large to justify. Meanwhile, some manufacturers are already offering price parity between combustion and electric vehicles…

A promotion that makes sense?

Jeep is thus promoting its electric SUV in a sluggish market. It must be said that at 38,000 euros, the competition is tough. With a boost of 2500 euros, the Jeep Avenger drops to 31,500 euros after rebates. The price difference with the gasoline version remains at 7500 euros. Let’s calculate the mileage needed to amortize this price difference:

• Cost per kilometer for the electric Jeep Avenger: 15 kWh/100 km × 0.23 €/kWh = 0.0345 €/km
• Cost per kilometer for the gasoline Jeep Avenger: 7.5 liters/100 km × 1.9 €/liter = 0.1425 €/km

Cost difference per kilometer: 0.108 €/km in favor of the electric vehicle. Conclusion: the electric Jeep Avenger will be amortized after approximately 69,444 km driven. A value that seems too high to be relevant.

It is up to Jeep and the Stellantis group to amplify their promotions to stay in the game.
