The Ford Mustang Mach-E receives an interesting update

Available in the United States since 2020, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is undergoing a mid-career update that extends its range.

It was once the best rival to the Tesla Model Y. Its performance, pricing, and capabilities were the closest. It also bore the proud nameplate of Ford Mustang as a strong calling card to attract enthusiasts. But sometimes starting too early can be a disadvantage without reward. Nevertheless, the appeal of an electric vehicle lies in its capacity to continually evolve thanks to technological advancements.

This rivalry with the Tesla Model Y is clearly stated in Ford’s press release announcing the update of the Mustang Mach-E. The headline reads: “Faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance“. That’s quite bold.

Indeed, the new GT Performance variant from the American brand can accelerate to 96 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, “faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance and Porsche Macan Electric“. Ford states that the 2024 update includes improvements in thermal management of the powertrain, new algorithms, and a more torquey electric motor with 135 Nm more torque.

This new motor is also applied across all other versions of the Mustang Mach-E GT. Similarly, Ford Performance seats, MagneRide adaptive suspension, and Brembo front brake calipers are now standard on all models.

The Mustang Mach-E 2024 with the extended-range battery as an option charges about 20% faster than before via DC fast charging, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 36 minutes, which is 8.8 minutes quicker than previous models.

Standard battery Mustangs now charge from 10% to 80% in 32 minutes, 5.7 minutes faster than at launch. In both cases, better energy management has led to an increase in range of up to 32 kilometers.

2024 Ranges

Inside, the infotainment system is also evolving, with a simpler ergonomics and new recreational apps to pass the time during recharges. The semi-autonomous highway driving feature has been improved and is now standard on American models.

Prices are rising, but significant discounts are common in the United States afterward.
