Nio’s Firefly Spotted in China

The giant Nio will launch its Firefly brand in Europe at the beginning of 2025, with the first vehicle spotted testing in China.

judging by the photos released by HiEV and widely shared on social media by the Nio community, the new electric vehicle features a slightly elevated ground clearance, leaving no doubt that it will very likely be a small SUV. The overall shape is rather rounded, but caution is advised as camouflage panels can make a body look different from reality.

It mainly appears to have large glass surfaces, indicating bright interior space. A good point considering that the name Firefly means Firefly in French. The fairly flat roofline ends with an integrated spoiler. Nio has not gone a traditional SUV coupe route, which is beneficial for rear passengers and the already saturated automotive landscape!

Nio and Firefly delayed in Europe?

Unlike other Nio models, this car is intended to be widely marketed in Europe. Firefly will focus on the affordable small car segment, targeting a young and dynamic clientele but not necessarily very wealthy. To achieve this, Nio priced this compact model at 150,000 – 200,000 Yuan, or approximately 20,000 – 26,000 euros before European taxes. It will be a tight margin to stay close to 30,000 euros, as beyond that, the giants Tesla, BYD, and MG are already fighting against the traditional European brands like Peugeot, BMW, Volkswagen… In short, there’s a traffic jam between 30,000 and 40,000 euros! Below that, there’s room for a well-designed car.

Nio is already present in Europe under its own name in five countries: Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Germany has been its biggest European market since its arrival in October 2022. The German-based automaker recorded 26 electric vehicles in January, a 2,600% increase compared to 2023, according to the manufacturer’s reports! However, it’s worth noting that the Chinese brand only sold one vehicle in 2023. Numbers can be easily interpreted in different ways…
