The Volkswagen Polo electric has a funny Spanish accent!

Produced at the Seat factory in Martorell, the upcoming Volkswagen Polo electric will share its platform with the new Cupra Raval.

This information is not trivial, as it reflects an interesting evolution within the Volkswagen group: the time when each brand tried to hide its family ties with its group cousins is over.

Because this future zero-emission city car will share the majority of its technical specifications with the recent Cupra Raval. Same platform, same technologies, same production site. And, for once, no one seems to want to play hide and seek.

It must be said that the automotive industry has changed. Developing a new electric car is expensive, very expensive. So it makes sense to capitalize on investments by multiplying models around a common base. A strategy that the Volkswagen group now openly embraces with its MEB Entry platform, aimed at affordable small electric vehicles.

Cousins Don’t Hide

In essence, this transparency is quite refreshing. Customers know perfectly well that many models already share engines, batteries, or electronic architectures. The differences are more about design, interior ambiance, equipment, or marketing positioning.

The upcoming electric Polo will not simply be a rebadged Cupra Raval. It will retain its own identity, more consensus-driven and family-oriented than the spirited Spanish model. But the two models will indeed come from the same family.

For Seat, which will produce these new arrivals in its Catalan factory modernized for the electric era, this is also excellent news. The Spanish manufacturer confirms its central role in the group’s European strategy.

And ultimately, seeing Volkswagen openly acknowledge these technical ties is perhaps a sign of a more mature industry. When the recipe is good, why pretend to reinvent it every time?
