The Citroën AMI comes to the rescue of young people in rural areas

Citroën lends its small permit-free quadricycle AMI to serve the “Pass Mobility” program for youth mobility in rural areas.

Ms. Françoise Gatel, Minister in charge of Rural Affairs, officially launched the “Pass Mobility” program. This initiative, funded by green funds for rural mobility and supported by the State, aims to facilitate young people’s access to professional travel using the Citroën AMI, the brand’s electric vehicle without a license.

This pilot project, tested locally, strives to be implemented nationwide. It addresses a critical need in rural areas where a lack of transportation is a major barrier to employment and training for young people.

As part of the trial, the Chenevelles town hall launched the “Ami Solidarity” program. Aimed at young people aged 18 to 25, this system allows them to use a Citroën AMI in exchange for a few hours of civic engagement. A dedicated app, developed locally, facilitates reservations and trip justifications (job interviews, professional appointments, etc.), with final approval by the town hall.

A car in exchange for some work

Citroën, a key partner in this initiative, provides its AMI vehicles to meet the mobility challenges of rural youth. The program will be showcased at the Rural Mayors’ Congress of France in September 2025, where an official partnership between Citroën and the Association of Rural Mayors of France will be signed to expand this model to other regions.

Funding from green funds guarantees the financial accessibility of the project for participating municipalities. This initiative is part of a public policy aimed at revitalizing rural areas and reducing inequalities in mobility.

The “Pass Mobility” program is a significant step forward in removing employment barriers for young people, while strengthening the links between innovation, public engagement, and local development. The goal: to offer concrete solutions so that mobility is no longer an obstacle to the future of young people in rural areas.
