BYD Atto 2, the Hungarian threat arrives in 2025

The BYD Atto 2 already promises to be a new benchmark among affordable electric SUVs thanks to European production.

The Chinese manufacturer will unveil this model in January, ahead of its launch in Europe. This vehicle will be positioned below the popular Atto 3, both in size and price.

Sold as Yuan Up in China, the Atto 2 is a compact electric crossover that has already successfully passed Green NCAP tests, an agency affiliated with Euro NCAP. This model will initially be available in Europe before being marketed in other regions, such as the Middle East. At 4.3 meters long, it is 145 mm smaller than the Atto 3.

In terms of design, the Atto 2 takes after the well-square and sleek look of its larger sister, with LED lights and two-tone 17-inch wheels. Inside, it features similar basic equipment to the Atto 3, including an 8.8-inch driver display and a 12.8-inch touchscreen central display. Equipment also includes a full suite of driver assistance systems, the famous ADAS, a panoramic roof, ventilated leather seats, and several driving modes.

The Atto 2 will be available with a small 42.1 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 312 km. Green NCAP tests estimate a real-world range of 244 km in mixed WLTP conditions and 164 km on the highway. As you can see, it is primarily aimed at urban driving, confirmed by its limited fast charging capacity of 45 kW. Relatively lightweight at 1,590 kg empty, the Atto 2 nonetheless promises performance that meets expectations.

Exported from China, it will naturally face new customs fees but is expected to be sold at a lower price than the Atto 3, likely between 30,000 and 35,000 euros. However, there are plans for manufacturing in Hungary once the BYD factory is operational. With reduced customs fees and ecological bonus, the price could then be around 25,000 euros, making it the best value for money and equipment in its segment.
