The Rivian R2 Ready to Challenge the Tesla Model Y

The Rivian R2 will only be unveiled tomorrow, but it has already leaked on Twitter. It is expected to be smaller and more affordable than the R1S and R1T.

The Rivian lineup is about to expand with the announced arrival of a more affordable model than the R1. Its name is already known; it will be the R2. Logical, if not very original. To keep us waiting, the manufacturer posted a very short teaser on social media giving a hint of the overall design… Similar to the R1. Well, we don’t learn much, but at least this is an official first look at this electric SUV before its expected debut in 2026. Rivian also announces that reservations for this model will open at the time of its reveal tomorrow, Thursday, March 7.

Smaller, cheaper

Latest reports from Rivian suggest that the model could start at just 40,000 euros, with prices rising up to 60,000 euros for the best-equipped versions.

So, what do we have to look forward to in the meantime? The front of the new model sports the same cheerful face as its larger siblings, with rounded headlights at the ends and a full-width LED light bar. This new model will give Rivian a competitor among the many compact electric SUVs including the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4.

Europe in the sights?

To date, Rivian has no models sold in France. The R1 is homologated and it is already possible to import it to France. The manufacturer continues to affirm that a European presence is in the pipeline. A new model, perfectly suited to the consumption habits of the old continent and competitive against current references, could be the long-awaited trigger.
