Tesla Prepares a Spectacular Update for Christmas

Tesla has decided to make Christmas 2024 a celebration of entertainment, and as usual, they are not doing things halfway.

The OTA update for the Tesla app (version 4.39.5) announces a major evolution. It primarily concerns Tesla Theater, which allows streaming video content—an ideal tool for charging stops or breaks. With the imminent arrival of the Holiday Update 2024, Tesla Theater will host new streaming platforms. Among them are TVLand, specializing in classic comedies like Everybody Loves Raymond, MTV, known for its lifestyle and music shows, Paramount+, offering flagship series such as 1883 and classics like Cheers, as well as HBO GO, famous for productions like Succession and House of the Dragon. Other services are expected to be added in the future, although Tesla has not yet revealed further details.

These new options enhance the appeal of Tesla Theater but require a subscription—individually or through a traditional TV provider. Although these platforms are not yet accessible within vehicles, they will be part of the 2024 update, which is scheduled to be deployed in the coming days.

In addition to Tesla Theater, the Holiday Update brings several innovations. Users will now be able to activate Light Show directly from the mobile app, a feature previously limited to inside the vehicle. Other improvements include optimizations for Dashcam and Sentry Mode, as well as a new Apple Watch app, offering better synchronization with the built-in infotainment system.

To top it off, Tesla is enhancing the user interface with the integration of the lottie-react-native framework. If you’re not familiar with this technology, think of it as a magical tool for adding super smooth and pretty animations to a mobile app. Imagine little animated drawings or visual effects that animate when you use an app—that’s what Lottie does.

With these additions, Tesla continues to focus on onboard entertainment. Some might say it’s to make charging breaks more enjoyable; we prefer to applaud anything that makes life on board more pleasant.
