We chose a Long-Term Rental (LOA) for 36 months, with 10,000 km per year. This choice is obvious, as if you didn’t know, the Ecological Bonus can only be obtained every 3 years. Forget the idea of changing cars every year with 4,000 euros of gift each time; it doesn’t work! You might even have to pay it back if you return your car too early.

A contribution of 0 euros is always tempting, but it makes the monthly payments swell too much. We opted for a reasonable contribution of 15%, which amounts to 10,400 euros, then reduced to 6,400 euros after deducting the Bonus.

All the data has been entered into the Tesla and Peugeot configurators, and naturally, we expected very similar monthly payments. To our great surprise, this is far from the case, as the 36 monthly payments are 244 euros for Tesla and 387.81 euros for Peugeot!

How can we explain such a difference? We remind you that at the end of the 37 months of the LOA, the manufacturer offers you the option to buy your car. The buyout option is 31,493 euros for the Tesla and 28,076.01 euros for the Peugeot. These are two opposing philosophies, with Peugeot opening the door to ownership and Tesla inviting you instead to return the vehicle and seek financing for a new model.

But if you’re a whiz at mental math, or if you never leave home without your calculator, you’ve quickly noted that the figures don’t add up. In case of buyout at the end of the 36 months of LOA, the Tesla comes back to you at 46,467 euros against 48,437.17 euros for the Peugeot. An extremely significant difference that leads to one conclusion: At the same price, the Tesla is cheaper than the Peugeot.
