Tesla Model Y

Surprisingly, the Tesla Model Y Propulsion is more affordable than the equivalent Model 3, and benefits from a (small) bonus.

In France, Tesla has just launched the Model Y Propulsion. Equipped with a single motor (compared to two on the other Model Y), this new entry-level version sacrifices a bit on performance, but it remains more than sufficient. The range is also lower.

On this base Model Y, only the rear wheels are powered. True to its habits, Tesla does not disclose either the vehicle’s power or the battery capacity. The official range is estimated at 455 km, according to the WLTP mixed cycle. This is about a hundred kilometers less than the Long Range Model Y. This figure applies to the Tesla Model Y with 19-inch wheels; with 20-inch wheels (priced at €2,100), the range drops to 430 km. The maximum charging power also decreases, from 250 to 170 kW.

Just slightly lighter than other Model Y versions (1,909 kilos), this new version consumes an average of 15.7 kWh/100 km. Regarding performance, Tesla claims 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 217 km/h.

A Tesla Model Y eligible for ecological bonus

Without options, this new version is sold at €49,990. Customers can benefit from a €2,000 purchase aid. Surprisingly, the Tesla Model Y Propulsion costs less than the equivalent Model 3 (-€3,500).

In terms of equipment, the vehicle comes standard with a panoramic roof, power and heated front seats, heated rear seats, and a 13-speaker audio system.

The first Model Y Propulsions headed to Europe will be assembled at the Shanghai Gigafactory. Deliveries are expected to start in December 2022, according to the official site.
