Tesla Model Y 2025 Propulsion: already available in stock... and expensive!

The 2025 vintage of the Tesla Model Y, still banned from ecological bonuses in France, is starting to pile up in the dealerships.

There is confusion among customers. While sales have never been worse at Tesla, wait times are very long, causing frustration. However, this is not the case for all buyers, some lighting candles in hopes that their delivery date would fall after the French government’s decision to grant a ecological bonus of 2000 euros for the 2025 Model Y. This has not been the case since its launch at the beginning of the year.

Although produced at the German factory in Berlin, costing less than 47,000 euros and meeting weight criteria, the required environmental score for eligibility has not yet been validated or published by the ADEME, which blocks the issuance of the bonus. As a result, it is said that hundreds of Model Y Juniper are currently stored in France awaiting validation, and deliveries are on hold.

A windfall for the rich?

If you wish to be delivered immediately, Tesla sometimes offers delivery without a bonus: you will sign a waiver giving up any recourse, even if the bonus is granted later. And this is convenient because the dealerships are full of Model Y Juniper awaiting delivery. This includes the Propulsion model, which was the last to be promised for order after the Grande Autonomie Propulsion and All-Wheel Drive. Proof that the business is not doing well…

Factually, is a bonus of 2000 euros on a 46,000 euro electric car that blocking? One must believe so, as buyers feel entitled to receive this aid, otherwise they turn to another manufacturer. Renault, BMW, Audi, and others thank you!

The next decree on the list of cars eligible for the 2025 ecological bonus is expected by June 2025, with no specific date. And nothing guarantees that the Tesla Model Y Juniper will be included, as its batteries and other mechanical components come from China.

Moreover, the bonus scheme could evolve starting July 1, 2025, with a rethought source of funding through energy savings certificates (CEE) and variable amounts (3,100€ to 4,200€ depending on income). Ultimately, perhaps Tesla customers playing the waiting game will be rewarded with a much more interesting tax aid… at the time (read our article on the 2025 bonus scandal).

In the meantime, only wealthy customers, undeterred by the 2000 euros assistance, are moving forward with purchasing the Tesla Model Y, which has seen its prices skyrocket in recent months. When a Model Y Propulsion cost less than 40,000 euros at the end of 2024, it now requires a minimum of 45,443 euros (registration fees included). This is a 14% increase that has been enough to collapse sales… along with Elon Musk’s political affiliations. As for the models already in stock, due to a lack of buyers, some exceed 47,000 euros. The pool of customers at these price points is starting to become very small.
