Tesla invites you to have fun on the track!

A way for Tesla to remind that 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h is great, but not on open roads!

Tesla has included in the latest update for some models a Track Mode V3 that optimizes the cooling of the powertrain during sporty use. Track Mode means Track Mode, and from the launch of its most sporty products, Plaid and Performance, Tesla has stressed that the incredible performance of its cars is absolutely not intended for road use, but can provide an experience nearly identical to that of a race car, at a much lower price. And every track test of a model has confirmed this. Nothing prevents a little drag race upon exiting the toll booth, but one must remain cautious and reasonable when handling such a machine.

But a Tesla, like any high-performance electric model, sees its capabilities decrease as the mechanical components heat up. There are very high performance levels at the start, but they quickly degrade after several laps. With this update, Tesla claims to be able to better control the cooling of the vehicle and thus its performance.

Three options are available in the Powertrain Endurance menu of Track Mode V3: Standard, Increased, and Maximum. Traction control and regenerative braking power remain fully independent, of course.

Standard: All power is immediately available, but the risk of overheating is greater.

Increased: As always, the intermediate mode is the one recommended by the manufacturer. A fair balance between power and consistent performance. Enough to do several laps calmly before allowing the car and your neck to cool down a bit.

Maximum: This mode reduces the vehicle’s performance but guarantees it over long distances. Perhaps it would have been smarter to call this mode “Endurance”.

This update currently appears to be available only on the Model 3 Highland Performance, but while the Model X Plaid has no track mode and should never receive one due to its weight and dimensions, the Model S and other Performance variants should not be long in receiving it.
