Tesla cars ready to activate FSD autonomous driving!

Many signals indicate that Tesla is about to officially launch the FSD autonomous driving feature in China.

By obtaining a license last June to equip its Chinese cars with the version 20 navigation software of Baidu Maps, Tesla paved the way for the imminent launch of an autonomous driving system, the famous in-house FSD! Baidu is indeed one of the few holders in China of a high-level mapping qualification for advanced driver assistance systems in the country. China is extremely conservative about its mapping data, as with many other things, so Chinese maps and a satellite system are needed for cars to operate autonomously in the Middle Kingdom.

A new step seems to have been taken, as according to photos shared by Tesla owners in China, the latest software update includes a button to activate fully autonomous driving in the Autopilot menu. Although the button is currently inactive and grayed out, it is the first time it appears in China, and its presence indicates that Tesla’s FSD feature could soon be ready for a public release. The menu also indicates that a new update of the famous Baidu navigation maps needs to be downloaded. There’s never smoke without fire.

Tesla is making significant efforts to introduce FSD in China and Europe. It was supposed to be in 2022, then this year, and maybe it will finally be in the first quarter of 2025. It will be interesting to watch for the appearance of this button on cars in France during the upcoming OTA updates.

A big announcement coming?

Although FSD has been available in the United States and Canada for years, its rollout outside the American continent has stalled and has repeatedly caused shareholders’ distrust, leading to a decline in the stock price of the American automaker. Coincidentally or not, the presentation of the Robotaxi scheduled for August has been postponed to October to “review some details,” according to Elon Musk? What if those details were actually the global deployment schedule for autonomous driving? It would be quite the catch, to be honest.
