Peugeot 408 Mondial 2022 (4)

The CEO of Stellantis promised to manufacture 12 electric cars in France, confirming an electric Peugeot e-408. What are the others?

At the Mondial de l’Auto, Stellantis didn’t throw the same party as Renault. Instead of concept cars, the group chose pragmatism, showcasing new models: Jeep Avenger, Peugeot 408, refreshed DS3. On its smaller stands by comparison, CEO Carlos Tavares welcomed Emmanuel Macron for a small event.

The group leader wanted to renew his promise to the President of the Republic: “commitment to carbon neutrality by 2038, ahead of all our competitors”, and especially, to announce “12 electric models proudly and passionately built by our employees in our 12 assembly and component factories”. But what are these 12 electric cars?

A new Peugeot e-408 in Mulhouse

“By choosing to produce the future Peugeot e-308 and e-408 at our Mulhouse site, Stellantis confirms giving each of its French manufacturing sites a future beyond thermal engines,” clarified Stellantis’ CEO, and this “by the end of 2024”.

The Peugeot e-308 and the Peugeot e-408 are adaptations of existing thermal models. They are based on non-electric platforms initially, known by the code EMP2 V3. These electric cars are thus being produced at the same Mulhouse factory. We don’t yet have details on the Peugeot e-408, which could feature the 115 kW (156 hp) engine and the 54 kWh battery. The range of this electric crossover should exceed 350 kilometers.

The Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008 in Rennes

These two models, arriving in 2023, will have two larger siblings. The Peugeot e-3008 will be the first to use the new STLA Medium electric platform. It is one of four bases for Stellantis vehicles. As a compact model, it will have a longer version, like the current one. The manufacturer confirms the upcoming Peugeot e-5008, which will be produced in Sochaux.

A Citroën ë-C5 Aircross for 2024?

Carlos Tavares also confirmed a new electric car for Citroën. While the electric C3, or ë-C3, is still awaited, it is expected to be a completely different model. The Rennes plant will manufacture this vehicle alongside the Peugeot e-5008, and it should be of a similar size. This potential Citroën ë-C5 Aircross could arrive as early as 2024.

Opel Mokka-e and DS3 E-Tense at Poissy

Since 2019, two cars other than Peugeot and Citroën have joined the Poissy factory. Shortly after the PSA Group’s acquisition, Opel transferred its Mokka to the French site, as it shares the same platform as the 2008. Its electric version, Opel Mokka-e, is now coming off the lines there, along with the DS3 E-Tense.
